This typical, quaint 1960s home in the Munich suburb of Harlaching, with small rooms and dark corners, was transformed into a spacious, bright, and modern residential building. The interior walls were partly removed and replaced by steel beams in the ceiling. The attic floor was fully finished and insulated for energy efficiency. The facade was upgraded with simple, carefully positioned, and well-proportioned oakwood frame windows. Wood floors throughout accentuate the newly created open floor space. Existing elements were deliberately preserved and upgraded. For instance, the stair railing was repainted in carefully selected colors. Much emphasis was placed on delicate details that underline the clients’ individual vision of their home, such as the pastel-colored linoleum fronts in the new kitchen or the entrance door made of narrow wooden slats with a custom-made curved brass handle.
