Briest near Tangerhütte is home to one of the oldest ancestral residences of the von Bismarck family, a late Renaissance manor house complete with chapel, former stables, brewery, landscape park, and private forest. The entire listed complex was largely abandoned during the GDR era and therefore in very poor condition. For some years now, the von Bismarck family and the association ‘Förderverein Briest’ have been restoring it with loving attention to detail and have made part of it accessible to the public. The former brewery, scenically situated by the estate’s private pond, has become a popular public venue for concerts, readings, private parties, etc. The ground floor features event rooms, a kitchen, and bathrooms, the upper floor with its exposed roof truss offers additional space for various functions. The wood for the high-quality, wide-paneled oakwood floor stems from the family’s own forest. The white-washed walls candidly reveal the underlying brick structure.
